Document Storage & Retrieval
We understand that many clients prefer us to securely store their important legal documents.
As part of our Wills and Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) services, we offer free, permanent storage for your signed Wills and LPAs.
For other legal matters, we are required by our regulators to store paper files for a minimum of 6 years (or 10 years for CLC-regulated purchase files). After this period, documents are securely destroyed — see clause 27 of our Terms & Conditions for more information.
Requesting a Stored File
This service allows you to request a copy or extract from a historical file that we still hold in our off-site storage facility.
How Long Does It Take?
For new clients, we begin work once our client engagement process is complete. This includes:
-
Agreeing the scope of work and fee
-
Setting up your client record
-
Issuing a bill (payment is required in advance)
Money Matters
Retrieve and Extract a historical file (£50)
Our experienced Probate Solicitors, based in Stockport and across South Manchester (Bramhall, Cheadle, Hazel Grove and Heald Green), can retrieve your archived file and extract relevant information upon request.
Please note:
-
Archived files are retained in accordance with regulatory requirements (typically for at least 6 years, or 10 years for certain matters).
-
After this period, they may have been securely destroyed in line with our Terms & Conditions.
-
We charge a fixed fee of £50 to retrieve and review archived files.
-
