Divorce

Description

Going through a divorce can often be a stressful time. We can work with you to help reduce the stress and can also help to resolve any children or financial issues. It is important to seek expert advice from a specialist family law solicitor. In order for your divorce to be granted, you must be able to show that there has been an irretrievable break down in the marriage. The ways this can be shown are:

  • Unreasonable behaviour (the most commonly used ground)
  • Adultery
  • You’ve been separated for at least two years if you both agree to divorce
  • You’ve been separated for at least five years if one of you doesn’t agree to divorce
  • You have been deserted by your spouse for at least two years.

If your divorce is international, you should take specialist family law advice in each country as the financial outcomes may be very different.

How long will it take?

The time our work takes to conclude depends precisely on what it is we are asked to do and may take longer particularly where finances and children need to be addressed.  It usually takes at least four to six months for a divorce to be completed, and may take longer.
